Always amazed by blogs

I'm always amazed by blogs.

The first do-it-yourself, high speed, universal access publishing system in history.

I'm ceaselessly grateful for, and intrigued by, blog technology.

Not the content that's invaded the blogosphere.

Most of that blog content is unamazing, boring, and irrelevant. Which makes me appreciate the few really beneficial and intelligent blogs that have somehow managed to exist and persist. Cheer on your favorite bloggers. Give them moral support.

The fact that basically anyone can easily and quickly start a blog about anything, then easily and quickly add to it, add photos, text, video, art, copy and pasted content from some other sources (with expressed or implicit permission), change the template entirely or partially...amazing.

I thank Evan Williams and his crew for this miracle, plus all the pioneers whose work culminated in Blogger, LiveJournal, WordPress, Moveable Type, TypePad, Radio, Salon, and all the other upheavals.

Upheavals. That's what the blogs are, what the blogosphere is.

Some people don't like the word "blogosphere". I've discussed this at Hello World blog a little. But I like it. I'd rather say "blogosphere" than "all the blogs that exist".

If you have a blog, cultivate a deep appreciation of what's actually happening. You are publishing content, substance, material, to the global information pool. Your personality is a living active component in the global interaction zone.

Be always amazed by blogs.

Never lose your astonished awe at the ease and speed of creating, writing, editing, enhancing, maintaining a blog.
